 NUMU Project

Executive Summary:

Our proposal is to work alongside music 55-7 and the creative enterprise forum to create a thriving online music learning community across the region by implementing a network on NUMU-www.numu.org.uk.

The NUMU Network will provide young people across the region with access to a range of projects organized by the creative enterprise forum. NUMU has been developed in close consultation with teachers, music services and the young people in response to their needs. It allows students to publish music, images, blogs and other files online and connect with other learners safely.

The NUMUNetwork provides teachers and music leaders with the tools to easily set up and manage online projects across several schools access students’ portfolios and provide feedback within a secure platform. It is ideal for creating a virtual hub and supporting a range of activities such as Transition, Creative Diplomas, Wider Opportunities and Musical Features.

If agreement to implement this proposal we will begin by training key staff and setting up the Network in February/March. We will then provide additional training, support and facilitation on demand.

The cost for implementing the proposal ranges from ₤3,339 for working for five secondary schools to ₤4,589 providing a solution and training to all secondary schools across the WELB.

We have a strong track record in creating and helping to manage safe learning communities for music and creativity. With our background and experience we are confident we can provide a unique, valuable and sustainable service for Music 55-7 and the Creative Enterprise Forum.

Music Leaders:

The NUMU Network will provide music leaders (teachers and project deliverers) working in the school or across schools to set up their own websites or “labels” within the network. A label can be created for an individual school or for a project working across several schools. It Provides-

-Tools for music leaders to present music learning resources such as sound files or documents to groups of learners.

-A place where students can showcase their music, blogs and pictures created as part of that labels activities.

-A private feedback tool for leaders top leave suggestions and critical feedback for the learner at anytime.

-An e-portfolio tool for learners to present backs their music leaders, which themselves and their tutor can only see them.

Benefits for music leaders:

The NUMU Network leader tools provide a number of important for music leaders working in and out of schools:

-Learners can access leaders resources when they need them from schools computers or from home.

-Worksheets, CD’s or other resources are never lost, can be refused and are only printed when needed saving time and money.

-Leaders have access to all students work in one convenient place, invaluable for music leaders working across schools and for teachers in school.

-Safe communication between students and tutors- all communication takes place online within the NUMU Network environment and not through email or any other unmonitored communication methods protecting the student and teacher safety.

-Engaging learning using the web for music learning in a way, which is online with way that they use technology outside of school.

Learners:

NUMU Network provides children and young people with tools they need to manage their learning at their own pace, in a way in which they are familiar working with. It provides tools to:

-Access course materials online

-Access support from peers and music leaders

-Create a web page where they can publish their music, picutures and blogs

-Post work for their tutor to access the Asses.

Benefits for languages:

NUMU Network channels young people’s enthusiasm for new technologies into music learning. It has a number of important benefits for the learners including:
