The site and buildings are vested in the trustees of the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Derry.

Background and Aims of School
St Cecilia's College is a Catholic Maintained girls' school built on a site overlooking the Long Tower Parish in Derry. It was officially opened on 22nd November, (the feast day of St Cecilia) 1967 with 369 pupils and a staff of 19 including principal and vice-principal.

Its present enrolment is 930 girls aged between 11-18 drawn from all parts of the city. Teaching staff now number 61 with supporting office, technical and manual staff.


Aims of the Board of Governors, Principal and Staff of St Cecilia's College
  1. To provide a continuous and co-ordinated curriculum in accordance with the Programmes of Study, Attainment Targets and Educational Themes of the Northern Ireland Curriculum.
  2. To allow children to experience enjoyment in learning.
  3. To promote and develop Christian attitudes and values.
  4. To foster, to the highest degree, the relevant and balanced academic and social development of each pupil.
  5. To establish a caring, supportive and secure school environment in partnership with the home, church and community.
  6. To prepare students for their lives as adults at home, at work, at leisure and as responsible members of society.
